Heritage House Information & Welcome Center was once the home of businessman John Linden. The beautifully restored 1840 Center Hall was formerly located at 111 Lavoisier Street in Gretna, LA.

An emigrant from Germany arriving in Gretna before 1840, he was a founding member of David Crockett Fire Company No. 1. Linden’s family roots are still found in the city to this very day.

After Linden, Ashton Cox, proprietor of The Jefferson Democratic Newspaper resided in the home and published the paper from the property. Cox served as a city alderman.

The home was saved from the wrecking ball and relocated to Heritage Square at 1035 Huey P. Long Avenue and serves as the City’s Tourism Office. It is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. -12 p.m. and 1 – 3 p.m. The Tourism Office can be contacted at 504.363.1580.

Heritage Square Playground & Gardens is a recreational park on the grounds behind the Welcome Center. The playground boasts scenic landscaping, play structures, benches and other amenities to compliment Gretna’s fine quality of life.

The Heritage House can be rented for groups of 25 or less for meetings or private receptions including small wedding ceremonies. Prices vary depending on day and time requested. Please contact Summer Cook for pricing details at 504-363-1552.
