The Jefferson Memorial Arch was built in 1923 and is located in the newly created Memorial Gardens on the Commons of Huey P. Long Avenue between City hall and Front Street.
The memorial’s single round arch topped by a tall entablature was inspired by Roman triumphal arches. Constructed of red brick with white trim, it has shallow niches on each side of the central opening.
It is dedicated to Jefferson Parish veterans who served in all wars.
Inscribed are names of soldiers from The War Between the States, the Spanish-American War, World War I and World War II.
Certain events happen near the Jefferson memorial Arch, like the annual Prayer Day gathering and is the starting point each Palm Sunday as the Knights of Columbus Blenk Council 1905 lead a procession to St. Joseph Church and Shrine.
